Corkscrew Rush

Question
Hi,

I found this as a house plant at Lowe's, and want to keep it as a house plant because I live in Colorado. There were no instructions on how often I should water it. I thought that it was a succulent since there was no info other than the name. Some of the leaves have dried out, but there are quite a few new ones sprouting up. From all the reading I've done online, it seems that I need to keep the soil moist at all times. Do you agree?

Answer
Lynne,

Yes, this is a plant that in nature grows in tropical areas at the edge of swamps where it is wet at all times except in winter it can dry out slightly between waterings. In tropical areas the winter months are dryer than the summer months. However the crown of the plant can never be under water, only the roots. So just keep the plant in a dish of water, do not set it down in a pond where the entire pot is under water or it will die immediately. Good luck.

Darlene
