Corn Tree (4 high)

Question
I have a corn tree for about three years and lately I find the leaves are turning brown a lot...I water it at least once a week and keep a globe in it to define how often I should...pot is 9"
deep with a 10" circumference...sits in a western corner of the apartment with some Sun...Am I watering too much or too little?

Answer
Dorothy,

If you are watering it weekly and keeping a water globe in it also it is constantly wet. You are never giving this plant a chance to dry out. all plants need to dry out between waterings. A corn plant needs to get very dry before being watered again. When the surface of the soil is dry do not water for 2 more days then it is time to water the plant. Also make sure that you are not watering your plant with water that has chlorine and flouride in it. Those will cause brown spots on the leaves. You can switch to distilled water or you can allow the water to sit in an open bucket for 48 hours before using it to water the plant, then the flouride and chlorine will dissipate into the air. Good luck with your plant.
