Pathos

Question
I recently bought a couple of Pathos (green leaves with trailing habbit). They looked a little dirty but now that I have hosed them down they still look dirty and the leaves have a coating of something that makes them look like covered in hard water residue. Little scrubing with soapy water hasnt helped much and i'm afraid stronger scrubbing might injure the leaves. Do you know what it could be and how do I clean this? Thanks

Answer
Utir,

It sounds like some sort of fungal infection. Can't tell what type unless you have it tested but it really doesn't matter. I would try spraying it with Lysol spray thoroughly getting the fronts and backs of all leaves sprayed.  Spray it twice a week for 4 weeks even after the plant looks better to make sure the fungus doesn't come back. If it was me and I had the plant less than a week or two and I still had my receipt I would be tempted to try to return it and tell them that you were told this was a fungal infection that it had before you bought it. If you can't return it you do have a pretty good chance of getting rid of the fungus if you follow these instructions and be consistant with the spraying. Good luck.
