Orchid-Phalaenopsis

Question
My plant has lost its leaves.  I just have the center that has dried out and the shoots.  The shoots or roots are growing slowly.
My ques. is will the leaves grow back or should I discard the plant?
Someone was taking care of this plant during last summer and when I returned it was in this condition..thanks

Answer
Hi Theresa,

I have never known a Phalaenopsis that has survived the loss of all of its leaves. However, most anything is possible if the roots and a growing tip are still healthy. Look for a new leaf to emerge in the next month or so. If it does, then your Orchid will recover very slowly as long as you keep that 'someone else' away from it! If not, then you should discard it.

I have written an article on Orchids that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who sends a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
