Unidentified plant

This plant was originally in a dish garden from my father's funeral.  I am doing my best to keep it alive (it has been two years) but so far cannot find even a picture of it to find out about it's care. It keeps producing ne3w leaves but the ones below dry up, curl up and fall off.

Hi Lee Ann,

Your plant is a variety of Croton. It is a naturally colorful plant so it is hard to tell from the photos whether the yellowing is natural or due to a soil pH problem. If your local tap water is on the hard side, then that has probably raised to soil pH to a point where nutrients are not available. If so, switch to filtered or distilled water.

Crotons do best in strong sunlight and cool temperatures when kept indoors. Water lightly when the surface of the soil feels dry.
