keepsake azalea

Question
The leave & blossoms have dried out, though the soil is moist.  I'm not sure how or if this plant can be saved. It is about 2 months old and was in a shaded window. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Jen,

Most people discard their Azaleas after they finish flowering because they are difficult to maintain and even harder to get to re-bloom.

If all of the leaves on your Azalea have turned crispy brown, then it is beyond recovery. The most common cause of that is allowing the soil to become too dry, even just once. This is not a forgiving plant and does not tolerate even occasional lapses in care.

Azaleas require sunny windowsills and cool temps, as well as soil that is never allowed to dry out.

If you are desperate to save yours, you can try pruning it back by about one-half and see if that stimulates healthy new leaf growth.

I have written an article on Azalea care that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who sends a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
