coral cactus has odd growth

Question
I have a lovely coral cactus that is doing just fine. I was excited when i saw a bud starting on the stem, however this bud turned into a leafy growth that is entirely different in nature to the coral cactus. Could this be a result of the cactus being grafted onto a different plant stem? And if so, should i just cut that off?

Thank you

Julia

Answer
Hi Julia,

Coral Cactus (Euphorbia Lactea Crest) has an abnormal growth that becomes the crest on the top of the plant. Sometimes this is a result of grafting in the nursery and sometime it is a spontaneous growth anomaly. In any case, the base plant is a Euphorbia, not a Cactus.

Without a photo, I am unsure just what you are seeing on yours, but I suspect it is a spontaneous growth. It is up to you as to whether you like the way it looks or prefer to cut it off.
