Spineless Yucca

Question
Good day
Our Yucca consists of two trunks(cut off at the tops).
One trunk is approximate. 2 feet and the other 1 feet. Just 2'' thick.
It has healthy looking leaves. Pot size is approx. 20x28cm.
Is it neccessery to replant it into a bigger pot or should we leave it alone? We keep it indoors.

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Betty,

I'm glad you asked BEFORE you went ahead and did what most people mistakenly do. The pot your Yucca is now in is the right size for it and it will probably never need a larger pot. When plants are moved from the ideal growing conditions of a nursery to an indoor location, the growth rate slows considerable and so does the need for larger pots. If you move your plant unnecessarily to a larger pot, you will likely cause root rot as the added soil will take too long to dry out.

If you don't like the appearance of the pot it is now in, then get a more attractive planter that is larger enough for you to put the existing pot inside. Double-potting is the best way to cover up unattractive pots.

Keep your Yucca right in front of your sunniest window indoors. Allow the top quarter of the soil to dry in between thorough waterings. Expect some leaf yellowing as it adapts to its new enviroment. Trim off any discolored leaf tips.

I have written articles on repotting and on Yucca care that I will email for free to you (or anyone else) who emails a request to me at [email protected].

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
