QUESTION ABOUT HERB

Question
This may be out of your expertise.  I got a small piece of my neighbor's rosemary bush, with a small piece of root attached.  Their bush is very large and spreading, and is actually flowering at this time, small lavender flowers.  I would like to successfully root it myself, either in my house or outside, much like my neighbor's.  I do not know what variety of rosemary it is; I don't think they even do.  Can you offer some suggestions for me to  get this piece of rosemary to successfully root, and become a healthy plant?  We live in zone 7b, mid-North Carolina.  Thank you.

Answer
Patrica:
At this time of year, the rosemary is going dormant. You can plant it in a pot with sterile potting soil and water slightly. Place in doors in a eastern or southern window. Must have full sun all day. Mist the plant with warm water every 3 days. Do not fertilize until spring. It may root, no guarantee. If it does, move it outdoors in early spring after last frost has past. Then fertilize with a liquid fish fertilizer from home depot or lowe's. Prune 1/3 off each branch every 3 weeks. It will produce good growth and be healthier. Good Luck!!
