Summer Savory, something is eating it, no me!

Question
I have grown summer savory for years, I never had an issue with pests, just like Basil, little or nothing bothers it, except this year. I had to move my growing location for my Summer Savory and now something is eating it.. Not the tops, not the roots, but the middle of the stalk, the tops are strewn aside and the nub is 1/2 inch long from the soil, and the middle is gone.  No foot prints in the soil so I suspect a mouse or mouse like varmint.    Help! I can抰 readily buy Summer Savory and have to grow it in order to deliver my "special" summer time Bruschetta that has to use summer savory..

I used to grow it by my deck, but my fig tree has grown to tall and shades the plot to well. So I moved my Savory to my veg garden, next to where I grow my basil.  The basil is untouched.   I live in south Jersey in a town setting, so no woods or farmer抯 fields.

Thanks for your help

Answer
Keith:
Since there are no footprints, I suggest that bird(s) may be the  culprit(s).
I can only suggest laying cayenne pepper or anything hot for their noses. Feed the fertilizer liquid fish or fish/seaweed will make it a stronger plant and some insects don't like the taste and will bite, but not destroyed. A nylon netting would help too! Good luck.
