Something eating my tomatoes

Question
I believe it is probably a possum.  It is eating 1/2 or so of a tomato, than it takes another & eats about the same or less & leaves the tomatoes on the ground some are 2 or 3 yards away from the garden.  How can I Prevent this.  I tried a spray that was supposed to keep wild life away. it didn't work.  I also sprinkled as much Cayenne pepper on the wet tomatoes but this is almost impossible to cover 3 hugh plants.  this year is almost over but I don't want to share next year either. I don't know who else to ask. Linda

Answer
Squirrels have also been known to eat tomatoes. Why is it that the wildlife always seems to take a bite out of every fruit instead of just eating one or two entirely??? I find the birds do the same thing with my cherries.

Anyway, the only way to keep them off of your tomatoes is with some kind of barrier. If you can't fence them, or already have a fence, try bird netting, garden cloth (like Remay) or screen of some kind. Maybe you could even leave something else, or damaged tomatoes somewhere nearby to entice them away from the plants (in addition to the barriers).
