Question
I have a blue spruce that needs a bit of trimming.  It is just beginning to candle.  Is now a good time to prune or should I wait until candling is complete for this year?

Answer
as soon as the candles open or are completely extended is a good time. new growth will develop from the lateral buds on the plants to help cover your pruning marks. pruning should normally be completed before hot weather arrives.
