Nep. Ampullaria

Question
Could you tell me what is the growing conditions of the N. Ampullaria (cantley's red), does this have to be kept in a terrarium. Also do you ever sell this plant on your web site.     Thanks -- Ken

Answer
Hi Ken,

All N. ampullaria, regardless of the variety, requires warm conditions and bright filtered light.  Ideally the night temperature should be no lower than 70癋, while the day temperature should be 75?90癋.

It also prefers higher humidity than most Nepenthes and doesn't adapt well to lower humidity.  Whether you should use a terrarium or not depends where you live in the United States.  (I'm assuming you live in the United States.)  If you live in south Florida, Puerto Rico or Hawaii, then you can easily grow this species without a terrarium.  If you live in Alaska, Arizona or in similar climates, then you may need to use a terrarium if you want to enjoy its beautiful pitchers.

We will offer this species in June (or July), though only the speckled variety and not Cantley's red.  We will also offer N. bicalcarata and other lowland species.

Good growing!
