terrarium subjects

Question
I am looking to buy a terrarium and put several plants in it.  I would like to grow cephalotus, heliamphora minor x heterodoxa, drosera capensis, nepenthes burkei, and utricularia longifoliain it? Can these grow well together? Also how can i lower the temperature at night and provide good air circulation? About how far from the light should they be?
                                       Thanks!

Answer
Hi Dustin,

These are all really good terrarium subjects.  I recommend the greenhouse tank style terrarium where the plants are in separate pots since all of these plants have different soil requirements.  Try to get your light within 3-4 inches of the plants.  That, however, is going to depend on the size of your tank.  We had a 48 gallon aquarium we used as a terrarium for awhile, we simply set a two-tube shoplight on top of the  aquarium.  It provided great light for them.  The tank was partially open so it had elevated humidity, but not 100%.  Lowering the temperature at night can be as easy as placing the tank in a room that gets cooler at night.  Otherwise, the species your talking about are not that demanding.  House temperatures tend to be pretty stable, and they are fine with that.

Good Growing!
