Nepenthes x Velvet

Question
I would like to know about which Nepenthes species were crossed to get the
hybrid Nepenthes x "Velvet". I have checked a number of the CP  books and
references, and so far have been unable to find the "parentage" of N. x "Velvet".

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Andrew,

This hybrid is Nepenthes fusca x maxima.  I'm not sure which is the parent plant, however.  You might also see the hybrid referred to as Gentle.  The full cultivar name is Gentle Velvet, though most growers simply refer to it as Gentle or Velvet.

By the way, this hybrid was developed by a Dutch grower, DeRoose.  He also developed the ubiquitous 'alata' hybrid you see at the hardware stores.  While we refer to it as a ventrata hybrid (N. ventricosa x alata), it is technically N. alata x (ventricosa x alata).

Good growing!
