About Fly Trap Cultivars

Question
I have a Flytrap "Dente"  and it has a flower, if i let it pollinate will the seedlings have the same "teeth" as the parent?

Answer
Hi Howard,

This would entirely depend whether the genes that influence the Dente teeth are recessive or dominant.  If they are recessive, then only a fraction of the progeny would develop the teeth.  If they are dominant, then all of the progeny will have teeth.

At this time, I haven't read any reports or studies on the genes that affect the teeth.  It might be a single gene, or it might be numerous genes.

In any case, you'll would have at least 25% of the progeny with Dente teeth, and lots more flytraps to grow!

Grow growing!
