cape sundew seedlings

Question
about 2 weeks ago i spread my fresh cape sundew seeds in some 3 inch pots, and put them under 40 watt lights for 16 hours a day. now that they are starting to sprout, they are concentrated in a few areas (my seed spreading style might not be up to par).  i was wondering when should i separate them so they would have adequate room to grow? i was going to wait until they got a big bigger, maybe another 3+ weeks. then transplant them into bigger pots and spread them out so they all can grow up big and strong.  Any advice that u guys have for me in doing this?

Also, my spoonleaf sundew garden (12 inch pot) is looking good after the initial month after transplanting them.  when they start flowering (which a few are doing) should i snip off the flowers so they devote more enegery to growing bigger and making additional baby sundews?

Answer
Hi Darren,

Wait until your capensis seedlings are at least an inch tall.  They need to be big enough to handle so you can separate them.  Be very gentle, and leave some together if you can't easily separate them.  When they are older you can get them apart.

If you want the plants themselves to get bigger on the spoonleaf sundews definitely cut the flowers.  If you want seeds, however, let them bloom away.  It is very easy to get seed from them and they germinate just as easily as Cape Sundews.

Good Growing!
