Pyrethrum

Question
QUESTION: Hello, I just got a bottle of a product called "Don't Bug Me" which contains Pyrethrum.  Will my plants be ok (Ventricosa, Cape Sundew, Singulana, Venus Fly Trap, Mexican butterwort) if this product got into the soil such as through the water trays?

Also I see some small worm "things" inside one of the pictures on my Ventricosa.  Could I spray this product into the picture without hurting it to kill those worms?

Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Jason,

This insecticide should be just fine.  Pyrethrins breaks down on exposure to UV light.  It has a very short lifespan and is almost always a safe insecticide to use on cp.

QUESTION:   Thanks Jeff, I do grow the plants under grow lights so the "UV" break down of the product should still be fine??
Also can I spray it inside the Ventricosa pictures to kill those worms I see?

Answer
Hi Jason,

Don't kill those little worms inside the N. ventricosa pitchers unless they seem to be harming the plants.  Pitcher plants often have insects that live symbiotically in the pitchers.  They could be helping with digestion of captured insects.

Pyrethrins is safe indoors or out on cp.  If for some reason your not sure try it on one plant first.  After about 3 days if it looks fine, it's safe.
