Mosquitos

Question
How do you recommend keeping mosquitos out of water trays?  I have a Venus Flytrap and a Purple Pitcher that are doing great, but are breeding mega mosquitos.  I want to kill them off without harming the plants if possible.

Answer
Hello Doug,

You can use mosquito dunks sold as small cakes in plastic wrapped packages. Do a search online for them and you will come up with a host of sites with them for sale. Those dunks contain a bacteria that infect and kill mosquito larvae shortly after they hatch. Just break one of those cakes into several small chunks and drop one piece into each plant tray every so often. They will not harm anything else, just mosquitos.

You could also just use the mosquitos as sundew prey if you grow any of those types of carnivorous plants. I intersperse sundews with my other plants and they capture a host of mosquitos that otherwise would not have been caught by the Flytraps and Pitcher Plants.
