Nepenthes Eymae Pot

Question
When my Nepenthes Eymae gets large enough for a 6 inch pot, should I get the regular of the hanging type?  In other words, is this the kind of plant that will look good in a hanging pot?

Also, I hear the word "prune" used a lot especially for vining plants like Nepenthes; is pruning simply cut off a piece of the vine to cut back the growth?

Answer
Hi Taylor,

N. eymae would definitely look good in a hanging pot.  Whether to put it in a hanging pot or regular is personal preference.  I have several in my home that are in pots just sitting on window shelves and look great.  You can also stake them up, or trellis them in pots.  It will just depend on your situation.

Pruning Nepenthes isn't much different than pruning a rose or small shrub.  Pruning one causes the dormant nodes to begin growing, and you can root the pieces you cut off.  Pruning is away to keep a plant bushy as opposed to a long vine.  If you want to take a dramatic look at just how much they can vine, take a look at our website photo gallery.  Link to the Leilani-Hapu'u Nepenthes nursery photos that were just posted.

Good Growing!
