venus flytrap soil

Question
i am planning to transplant my flytrap to a terrarium, home made. i have some forest moss. is ok to us this? or which is better, peat moss or sphagnum moss. what is sand to moss ratio?

Answer
Hi John,

Never use forest moss.  For Venus flytraps a 50/50 mix of peat moss to sand or perlite is best.  They don't tend to do as well in long-fiber sphagnum moss.  Also, be sure to visit our caresheet pages at http://www.cobraplant.com/caresheets to get a good start on growing your  Venus flytrap.  Based on your question, it sounds like you may have received care information laced with many of the common myths that plague new growers so often.  Feel free to visit us back here at Allexperts if you have additional questions after reading the care page on flytraps.

Good Growing!
