Pitcher plant: dead or alive?

Question
Hello
I have had this pitcher plant for over 4 years and this year it has not come back yet.  Did the moss take over?  Did it get too cold this winter (it snowed 22" in Portland this year)? Is it taking a year off?  To my knowledge, it never dried out (the moss is still alive.)
please help
thanks
Tyler

Answer
Hello Tyler,

Without knowing the conditions the plant lives in I really cant diagnose the problem, but if winter was very harsh where you live, the plant could have frozen solid if it was in a pot or container. Pots simply do not insulate as well as the ground does. Sarracenias also succumb to fungal attacks in winter occasionally.
