browning on nepenthes ventricosa


Question

browning on the center
is this normal because my nepenthes ventricosa is browning from the middle of the stem top and bottom including the new growth. Is it dead or i just did something wrong i just got this 3 weeks ago from california carnivores and repoted in new media 1 part peat moss and one part sphagnum moss. is the plant adapting to its new envirement or is it close to diying, last night i didnt see the browning untill now.

I live in zone 8
put it under florencent light for 11 hours then 2-3 hour of direct sunlight
water it with distil water

Hi Aaron,

First, it's always best to contact the original grower if you have a concern with a recently acquired plant.  The grower will be able to provide you with information about the original growing conditions and help you determine if this is normal situation based on how the plant was originally grown.

With that said, the brown patches could be minor damage from the shipping process, depending on how the plat was packaged and how gentle the carrier was.  It's too early to determine if this is a disease process or physical trauma.  The most I can tell you to do is wait a week.  If the browning continues to enlarge and darken, then it could be a disease process that needs to be treated immediately.  Otherwise, if it's physical trauma, the browning wouldn't spread.

In either case, give the plant lots of sunlight and water, as you're doing now.  You should also contact the original grower for advice.
