Nepenthes Sang.

Question

Nepenthes Sang.
Hello

My Nepenthes sanguinea is thriving in the conditions I give it inside my home (I give one pitcher a large cricket every month) but I've notice something I've never seen on a Nepenthes before.  I can't even describe it to you since I don't know what it is but I have a photo!

(If you follow the link there is another picture of the entire plant, if that matters.)

Thanks Justin

Answer
Hi Justin,

It's a type of mold from the heavy nectar secretion.  This is quite common when humidity is high.  If you're bothered by it, spray your plant with Neem.  Otherwise, it's perfectly harmless to the plant.  For more information about treating this, watch Volume 3 of the Grow Carnivorous Plants DVD series.

Good growing!
