N. Miranda is blooming-

Question

N. Miranda the tranny
Hey I obtained a very large, beautiful and flowering male N. miranda (aka. Mothera) at the last open house. Well its put out 8-10 new winter (green) pitchers and has decided it wanted to flower again this season, you can see where I removed the last set of flowers in the photo. Should I let it continue to flower in cycles so closely together with the light hours being so short? or should I neuter him?

TY

Answer
Hi Deryk,

Have you ever smelled a Nepenthes flower?  It smells like dirty socks, very musty.  It's OK in the greenhouse, but you don't want that smell in your home.  So neuter the guy!  You could also consider hacking back the vine to force the plant to produce more shoots.  If you do, you could also root the cutting to get another plant out of the deal.

Good growing!
