regia and heterodoxa x minor

Question

D. regia and H. hetero
Hi,
I've had my regia for two years and I think it's ready for a repotting.  It's grown a forth crown and a taproot is coming out the bottom.  Is it ok that I use the regular 50/50 mix or do regias need a special mix?
Also, I've had my heterodoxa x minor for two years also.  Do you think it looks like it needs a repotting also or should I wait for more large pitchers. It's newest pitcher is smaller than the previous ones.  I'm going to move it into a small terrarium soon as I've been using the original cup that it was shipped with as a terrarium (I leave it cracked open).
Thanks!

Answer
You can use the standard 50/50 mix with regia as long as you're top watering your plant and the plant is kept in a cool location.  Otherwise, use a mix of 1 part peat and 2 parts perlite.

You can repot your Heliampora anytime.  If you feel it needs fresh soil and/or a new pot, then yes, it's definitely appropriate to repot it.  Keep in mind that the cup it was shipped in was only used to protect the plant during shipping.  It was never meant to be used as a humidity dome.  We acclimate all plants to lower humidity.  In some situations, a terrarium isn't entirely necessary.  As for the newer pitchers, it's likely that you have a new off shoot.  So it might not at all be indicative that something is wrong with the plant.

Good growing!
