identify by flower buds

Question

Tarnok or Flava???
Hello. I would like to ID these plants if possible. I am dividing now (in NC). I know I have Flava & Tarnok, but cannot tell now which is which. I had 2 pots of each that I divided a couple yrs ago, now in need of dividing again. The ID tabs are faded away. They are sporting their winter "crew-cuts" so I hope you can ID from the picture added. Thanks in advance. I am amazed at how quickly help comes when you ask! Novice but learning. . .

Answer
Hi Holly,

I'm leaning towards saying this is S. leucophylla "Tarnok".  Tarnok tends to get full and weedy like your plant on the left in the photo, and S. flava tends to have larger single rhizome crowns.  The flower buds will also only have tinges of red, but not be totally red.  One way you can tell is to look at the dead pitcher I see in the photo.  If you see faint white speckles, it's a leuco.  Leucophylla lids also tend to be very fuzzy on the underside.  Flava isn't.

I was also going to mention that the DVD I spoke of is very different than the e-book you currently have.  We made the DVD series a couple years ago with each volume covering a different group of plants.  They provide lots of hands-on demonstrations and information with lots of footage from our nursery.  http://www.cobraplant.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=38&products_id=...
