watering and best spahgnum moss

Question
Hello there. I was just wondering wat is the best species off   LIVE spahgnum moss to use when planting in it nepentheses and heliamphora. Also is well water safe for carnivorouse plants or does it have bad minerals. Thankss!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
I don't think it would make much of a difference which species of live sphagnum moss one might use to plant nepenthes and heliamphora. Although I grow live sphagnum moss myself, I haven't tried it yet as a growing medium for my heliamphora, and I don't grow nepenthes, so I would suggest that you ask this question of the nepenthes and heliamphora experts at a carnivorous plant forum--

Regarding the well water, unless you have a TDS (total dissolved solids) meter and can measure the water, I would avoid it. Most well water and city water is too high in dissolved minerals and salts for use with carnivorous plants. Collected rain water, reverse osmosis water and distilled water are all safe and recommended.

Best wishes,
Steve
