s rubra   Hello:

my s rubra wherryii is growing reed-like spikes. Are they part of the plant, or are they reed indeed??!!

Not sure if they should be removed.

Yes, those are weeds.  The best way to get rid of them is to unpot your plant, remove the weeds, and repot the plant in fresh soil.  Weeds grow very fast, and their roots will often intertwine with the Sarracenia and can potentially slow down their growth.  You can also pull them out if you  don't want to unpot your plant.  You just need to get down under the soil to make sure you grab the growing point of the weed.  For demonstration on repotting Sarracenia, watch Grow Carnivorous Plants, Volume 1 DVD.
