Heliamphora and green tea

Question
Hey guys, I was reading some of your past answers about sun picture care. You suggested using green tea. My question is what kind or brand? Also after I water the plant with that should I or should I not use my fertilizer?
Thanks, Jason

Answer
Hi Jason,

Using either green or black tea, or peat tea for that matter does the same thing.  It adds tannins to the soil and makes it more acid.  Brand will not be of much consequence.  It also adds a small amount of nitrogen and trace minerals.  It can be beneficial.  There's not harm if you want to try this.  I would still continue to use a foliar orchid fertilizer.  Heliamphora are very well adapted to absorbing the nutrients through their pitchers.  Just back off the tea if you notice any unusual affects.  As long as you water frequently and flush the soil problems are unlikely with this.

Good Growing!
