late summer Sarracenia flowers

Question
Hey Jeff,

I have a question regarding my Sarracenia sending up flowers this time of year. Several of my Sarracenia have tried to send up flower stalks...I have removed them. Is this normal for Sarracenia to try and send up flower stalks in late summer? Are some species more prone to do this than others??

Thank you,

Derick

Answer
Hi Derick,

Yes.  It happens in nature too.  Sarracenia oreophila seems most prone to doing it, but I've seen flava and other do it too.  It's fun to see a flower in the fall, but they don't have enough time to produce seeds, so pollinating them is of little benefit.

Good Growing!
