Sand and Vermiculite

Question
Do you have a brand that you recommend for sand in CP mixes for Cephalotus? Also, being from the east coast, its tough to find pumice, is vermiculite and suitable alternative? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Joe,

Look to see if you can find silica sand, or sandblasting sand.  In your area it's possible that children's play sand would be fine since quarries are probably located in the Appalachian range.  This rock is mostly metamorphic and is fine if the sand if from that.  Avoid vermiculite since it releases minerals, and holds too much moisture for Cephalotus.

Good Growing!
