cactus turned yellow and a part exploded...

Question
I left my cactus at home when I left for holidays. when I came back it turned
yellow (not enough light) and one part (there were 3 branches coming from
the ground) was like a balloon with no air, all empty inside and it looked like
it
exploded. I took of this ill part with a knife but I'm not sure if it didn't infect
the rest as the cactus looks very weak and the new part which grew on the
top seems to be falling apart.
What shall I do? Shall I keep it on the sun, will it get the life back again...?

Many thanks,
Dobbie

Answer
Dobbie,

It sounds like your plant has rotted. If I knew what type of cactus it was, I might be able to give you a better answer. However, based on your description, there isn't much that can be done at this point.

Keep in mind that most cacti are greenhouse grown, so putting them in the sun can damage or even kill them. Cactus, like any other plant has to be acclimated to direct sun.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
