Help!

Question
I believe I may have killed my husband's cactus but
was wondering if there was a way to save it. I have now found out that I was watering it way too much. It is about 5 feet tall & and from pictures I think it might be a cereus. There are 2 "stalks". The top half of both look like it is decaying or kind of rotting in and scriveling. Is it possible to cut off the top half & have it live or do you have any other suggestions?

Thank you so much for your help-

Answer
Jenny,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Chances are the roots are damaged if the plant is dying from the top down, unless it was exposed to some extreme cold. If it is because of root damage, try adding some "Superthrive" to the water when you water it. Superthrive is a root stimulator available at most nurseries.

If it from exposure to cold, the damage should stop at some point. In both cases, if the bottom half is health (right color, firm to the touch), you can remove the damaged part. Just make the cut about 3 or 4 inches below the damaged part. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
