cabbage plants and winter

Question
Will ornamental cabbage and kale plants live through the winter?  I live in north Florida but we do get freezes here (even sometimes hard freezes).

Answer
These are hardy annuals, but they're not invincible - imagine putting a head of lettuce in the freezer.  Cabbage is tougher, fortunately.  Here's what one professional says about these plants:

'These hardy outdoor plants will withstand frosts and even snow, becoming more colorful the cooler it gets.'

That's from the A.J. Rahn Greenhouse website post by Sandy Weinkam on 'Ornamental Cabbage & Kale':

ajrahn.blogspot.com/2009/11/ornamental-cabbage-and-kale.html

'Plant these beauties in full sun for the best color, and water when dry.  No fertilizer is necessary, as these plants will finish their life cycle usually by late December or early January...'

Lovely in the landscape, these.  Good luck.
