Plumeria...spots on leaves

Question
The one plumeria that survived this past winter has brown/black spots on some of the leaves (sorta like black spots I occasionally see on leaves of a rose plant).  What might this be and how should I treat the problem?

Answer
Dear Wally, Just as the black spot on roses is a fungus, the black spots on the plumeria are also a fungus.  Be sure that you are keeping the soil fairly dry.  You should probably trim off the black leaf sections, using clean scissors dipped in bleach water (10% is good).  Then I would spray the plant with a fungicide.  A good one to have around is Ferti-Lome's Triple Action Plus because you can use it for fungus, insects, and mites and it really works.  You may be in one of those areas that has had high humidity and rainfall this year, and that will account for an increase in fungal diseases.  Your plumeria should get better soon, but you will probably want to spray once a week for about three weeks to make sure the fungus doesn't come back.  Good luck, Melissa
