Ash tree lost its bark

Question
I have an ash tree that died out numerous years ago and another tree sprouted up from the roots. It's about 20 feet tall, and during a storm, the bark on the side of the tree just let loose and fell off.  What can I do to help this tree? Does it have a disease that allowed the bark to just flake off like this? Thanks so much.

Answer
Hi Debbie                                                                      How r u? The ash trees a known 4 loose bark and sometimes they peel off like that.It does sound a lil more then usual. What i worry now is future decay and insect problems like bores ashbores and termites/these trees r susceptible to many types of insects. What happens is a cavity can form and fungi and insects make it there home.If u r to care 4 it yourself u can buy BAYER TREE SHRUB INSECT CONTROL which is a soil drench that when applied will cover many insects and up to year n more.I would also like u to get a fertilizer down ether soil drench or spikes or pellets/granular/what ever is easy 4 u to find. The number aka NPK# NO higher then 10/10/10 This will help strengthen inner cambium and promote new growth and feed 4 season. These treatments r easy to do just read labels n amount u need will depend on caliper of trunk at Chest height. These treatment should cost less then 60$ n keep the tree looking good 4 years to come.It is very important to treat things b 4 they become a problem.U can have a certified ARBORIST treat tree but this may cost 220 to 300$ and its something i think u can handle.Fyi Walmart and target carry these products and or most garden centers will have these products or a something very close.Good luck!!,and after u get products n u need help just ask!KEEP ME POSTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
