regular shrub, with brown spots

Question
Please help!  I have several regular shrubs in the front of my house they all are the same type, I just don't know the name of them. Late last year I noticed one of the shrubs getting brown spots with a very dark ring around the spot.  This year I have noticed all of the shrubs have the same thing. It is growing out of hand.  I have lived in the same place for two years and nothing was wrong the first year. What should I do?
Thanks in advance
Susan

Answer
What you describe sounds like a fungal leaf spot.  I would go to a garden center and purchase an all-purpose fungicide such as Daconil and treat the plants now and at 10-14 days later.  Remove leaves with spots if possible and destroy them away from your plants.  Then watch them for occurrence of more spots over time.  You may need to re-treat in a month or so to prevent the disease from spreading.  Good Luck.
