Brown Spot Calandiva

Question
Hi David,

there are several brown spots found on Calandiva leaves. What are they ? Fungus ? Treatment recommendation ?

Another Calandiva plant has light brown colour on its stem. Is it normal or a disease ? Well, the plant looks healthy to me.

I sent some pictures to your email address. Thank's.

Rgds,

Ari

Answer
The brown blotches look like oedema.  Oedema is an abiotic condition that is cused by too much water being in the soil and also having high humidity conditions around the plant at night, when the stomates close up.  There is so much water pressure in the plant cells, they actually burst and then dry up, leaving a little callous tissue behind.  This occurs frequently with a a lot of plants and is not your fault.  It is harmless to the plant.  The white scar on the stem is just that, a leaf scar.  This is where a leaf was removed.  I hope this solves your problem.  I do not think you have anything to worry about.  Thanks.
