Broken Branches on Peach Tree

Question
While on vacation our semi dwarf Babcock Peach Tree, planted 3 yrs ago. fruited VERY HEAVILY. When we returned the fruits were so heavy that a couple main branches broke. The peaches are not ripe yet, but we picked them today to save the remaining branches. What if anything should we do to be sure the tree doesn't aquire any disease, etc.? We are newcomers to this climate & gardening. We live in Albuquerque, NM. I love my tree & want to keep it safe & healthy.

Answer
Go ahead and prune out any broken branches.  Even cut branches that are cracked.  Make proper pruning cuts and the plant tissue will heal itself on its own just fine.  You do not have to do anything else.  Do not paint or cover any of the exposed plant surfaces as this causes more harm than good.  Next year, if the tree loads up real heavy, remove some of the fruit early in the season.  Everyone should have this problem with their peaches.  Good Luck.
