boxwood problems

Question
I planted three boxwoods about 2 months ago. Purchased from a very reputable nursery. The leaves on the bottom halves of the shrubs have started turning a whitish gray color. Is this normal, or do you know what could be causing this and how to fix it if it is a problem? Thanks.

Answer
Ellen:
From your description, this doesn't sound like a normal thing. This discoloration may be associated with a transplant stress of sorts. This may be a soil related issue or other environmental problem. Since these were planted so recently, I would suggest contacting the nursery where you bought them and discuss the problem with them.  In the meantime, you can take a send a photo to me of one of these plants. Be sure to review it on your computer first- to be sure it is in focus, before sending.  This period right after planting is often critical- the plant is getting use to its new surroundings.  It is up to us to help make that transition as smooth as possible.

Steve
