Carrotwood tree and thrip

Question
I just purchased a carrotwood tree to replace a 35 yrs old myoporum  which has been stricken w/the thrips that have reached San Luis Obispo county, CA.  It occurs to me now to ask if it will be victimized by the thrip too. What are the chances of that?

Answer
Carolyn:
Difficult to say if this tree is a very important host to this insect. This tree is quite hardy in some climates. Unfortunately, thrips can feed on many host plants.  They can become an issue on flowers, where they can damage the quality/appearance. Choosing a tree that is resistant to thrips may be a difficult job. You might consider checking with your local Dept. of Agriculture or your local nursery about resistance.
