sick heliconia

Question
As the foliage of my heliconia erupts the tips are already brown, as the leaf unfurls the tip becomes more brown, dry and brittle. As the leaf matures the brown continues down the sides of the leaf and continues to get brittle.

The plant is growing and the mid-section of the leaves remain green, but the older the leaves become the more the brown spreads.

It is certainly not very attractive. I have a second heliconia that is fine. It is a different variety.

Answer
Hi Joanne, You have not given me a lot of information to go on, so I will give you a few things to consider.  The bud could have been hurt during the winters cold, as you do not say where you live.  Different heliconias  like different places to be planted in.  Some like sun and some do not.  Some heliconias do better than others.  Once a heliconia blooms they go down hill and should be cut away when they are all brown.  kathy
