Indian Walking Stick

Question
Hello,
The Indian Walking Stick is devouring our garden!  We have been picking them off the plants at night, but have been catching up to 100 each night.  What is the most effective insecticide to use against these insects? (They have been identified as this insect by an entomologist, and we live in the San Diego area. Nobody seems to be able to help us with the control question.)
Thank you for your help!!
Jen

Answer
Since they feed on the foliage I would try Orthene sprayed on the foliage. It should control them. They are an infrequent pest and not much has been done on the control. But Orthene is a general insecticide for leaf eating insects such as grasshoppers a close cousin to walking sticks and should do the job.
