Springtails

Question
a close up
a close up
Hello Jack, I noticed another gentleman had a problem with springtails. I too have a problem with springtails. Long story short with all the details I have.
I noticed them about 3 weeks ago. They seem to be worse when it is hot or humid outside. They are in two main areas of my brand new home. (We moved in 3 months ago.) I am a clean freak. Honestly, I bleach and mop bathrooms every Sunday, I take a Swiffer to my hardwood floors every night.. We do not have any pets, moisture, shrubs, plants, or fertilizers close to the home however, we do live in front of a large mountain. We had to do some excavation work and had then had the mountain hydroseeded. I have attached a picture of what they look like on my Swiffer. They are super small, dark, do not have wings, but they jump or "flick" away when you get close. I have tried EVERYTHING to set rid of them! I have had exterminators come and spray, sprayed bleach around my house, cleaned with vinegar? They do not bite or anything but they are driving me CRAZYYYYY!!! Please help!

Answer
Kierra,

It is not unusual for newly built homes to be plagued by a variety of nuisance pests that moved in while the house was being built. Usually these problem resolve themselves fairly quickly without any treatment. I suspect this is what's going on in this case as well. See http://www.livingwithbugs.com/springtails.html if you need more info about springtails but otherwise I'd just sweep them up as you find them. Time will usually solve this problem.
