drain flies

Question
How do I get rid of drain flies?

Answer
Jennifer,

Drain flies (see this page http://www.livingwithbugs.com/drain_fly.html for some background information and pictures of drain flies) develop in the organic gunk that forms in drains, sewer ponds and the like. Drain flies can also be found around cold-composted compost bins.

The best way to get rid of drain flies in homes is to remove the layer of gunk from your drains and the best way to do that is with the new bacterial/enzyme drain cleaners. Regular chemical, lye-based drain cleaners work well for clogged drains but the new bacterial cleaners work better on the gunk. No need to use insecticides.
