pest control on fruit trees

Question
Hi, I have an ongoing problem with plum curculios(plum trees) and codling moths(apple trees)and I am hoping you can tell me an effective way to control them. I have researched and tried natural methods with no success. I have decided the only way I will ever get edible fruit is to find something good to spray them with and I would like to find one spray that is safe for apple, plum and pear trees. Keeping things as simple as possible is my goal! Thanks so much!

Answer
Doreen,

I think a good place to start might be the relatively new spinosad insecticides. See http://www.livingwithbugs.com/spinosad.html for a label and information. Spinosad is a natural insecticide (certified organic) made from the fermentation of yeast. You'll have to check the label to make sure it is approved for use in your area. You may also want to check with your local Cooperative Extension office (http://www.extension.org) about their recommendations. Post a follow up if you have questions after looking over this material.
