Question
I have a "ferry morse" soil test kit which contains 4 different, one time use tests at $5 per kit. I want to do severl Nitrogen only tests over and over.
Ferry Morse wont sell only the Nitrogen capsel in quoinity. Do you know what the Nitrogen test chemical is? Where I can buy only the chemical? Thanks Don

Answer
Hi Don;
Are you sure ou need to do that much testing?
I have never done any testing, and I don't plan to.
If you have a balanced maintenance program, you don't need to .
If my lawn or garden shows signs of needing a nutrient, I apply something that gicves that nutrient.
If you have a balanced organic program, your soil will be what it is supposed to be, and never need any of that fuss and feathers.
Chemical programs make lawn care sound so difficult and demanding.
It just isn't that way.
First off, chemicals cause more problems, and they really don't cure any. They just put a bandaid on some.
Some plants need more acid, or more of something else, and there are natural and simple ways to get this to them.
for instance, when bananas get too ripe for eating or banana bread, I make a tea of them byt putting them in a blender with water, and making them liquid, then I feed my roses with this tea. It is a great source of potassium, and it has other nutrients to boost bloom and growth.
Alfalfa meal is also very good for all your plants.
You can make a tea by putting 1 cup alfalfa meal into 5 gallons of water, letting it set overnight, then you can water with it or use it as a floiar feed.
It can also be added to the soil when yopu plant containers, or in the soil when you plant anything. You can also scatter the alfalfa meal all over and water it in.
Lava sand is another good thing to use. It is full of all kinds of nutrients.
Corn gluten is full of nutrients and it also acts as a fungicide.
I don't know where you can buy the kinds of test equipment you are looking for, but ou could put nitrogen test kits  in your search engine, and if they are sold anywhere, you should get a list of sites to check out.
