How long do I keep my grass for winter?

Question
I live in Layton, UT on the East Bench.  I was told to mow my lawn as short as possible for the winter, but I thought it was supposed to be the opposite.  Seems like my lawn is already in dormancy but it hasn't been cut for a while.  Will cutting the lawn just bring it out of dormancy?

Thank you for your help!

Answer
Go ahead and Mow.  Short Grass won't matte up the way it would if it was Long.

Yes, you worry about stimulating growth on plants by pruning them or trimming them this late in the season.  But the Grass will be dormant shortly just because the Soil is cool, the day is short and the temps are low.  You'll be doing your Lawn a favor if you mow it short.
