Irrigation system killing my grass?

Question
Hello there, I recently moved into a new home that was equipped with an irrigation system.  I also have a well and and water softener, I'm not 100% sure but I think some how my pump for the sprinklers is connected to the water softener as well, if this is the case, could the softener salt in the softener system be harmful to my lawn (st. augustine grass)? If so, I'll need to do some re-piping.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Have a water analysis done on a sample from the well. You will have to take steps to ensure that it is from the well itself;  before it enters the the irrigation system. Total salts or total soluble solids is what you are looking for. The result is given in parts per million (ppm). If the results are within the range for watering crops, then you know that the well water is OK for irrigating. Next do the same for the water delivered by the sprinkler system. If the results are higher, then you know that between the well pump and the sprinkler heads, the system is getting contaminated. Seek and correct! If not, then you have to look elsewhere for an answer to the problem. I am frankly, not sure if your problem is with your landscape.
